My mother has been a beacon of what is possible my entire life: no matter what, everything she did, she did with a smile. It inspired me to want to be a better person.
Cancer brings out the superwoman in every survivor, and not only did my mom take care of her family, but she helped others in her life battling it too. When her friends also got diagnosed with breast cancer, she was the first to step up and help. To "pay back" the kindness she was shown. She embodies what it means to thrive after the disease.
She deserves this honor more than anyone I know because she marches for everyone in her life that won their battle but also for those that did not.
